The decorating trend “shabby chic” appears to be having a resurgence in recent years. However, the “trend” seems to have taken on the new name of “farm house style.” This trend of antique, weathered and decor in its purest form is gaining growing popularity in the USA and round the world. I personally love anything that looks “antique” so when I came across this lovely, 19th century candelabra in a an antique store in rural GA, I just had to have it!
I kept the candelabra in its “purest” form for these shots….it could definitely use a coat of white or beige spray paint but I think the weathered, rustic finish gives this piece a bit of character. I decided to integrate the candelabra into my porch/patio decor as this part of my home has been a bit neglected lately and needed a little “pick me up.” To be perfectly honest, I will say that this DIY transformation took me less than two minutes. I simply utilized the Light Charms® magnetic crystals that I had on hand and the new look was instantaneous. The beauty of Light Charms® is that they feature a magnetic tip so they instantly just “click on” to the metal frame of the candelabra. The magnetic crystals that I used can be found here: Swarovski Magnetic Crystal Peridot Ball. I realize that not everyone can afford Swarovski crystals but MagTrim Designs also manufactures Light Charms® with Egyptian crystal which is half of the cost.
Embellishing this antique find was quick, easy, and affordable. I could have added a few flowers in the candle cups of this candelabra but I think I will leave this gorgeous piece “as-is” for a few weeks.
I love glitz and glam so these magnetic crystals provided the finishing touch that was needed to convert this antique candle holder into truly a “bejeweled treasure!”
